Lovely friendly staff. I went in with my two boys and they were so kind and chatted and played them while I shopped, made it easier for me to find what I wanted.

Was great, now not so much. Has become rather genericEDIT: In response to the Owner's reply, my wife and I have bought numerous items from the store over the years for anniversaries, birthdays, etc and it was considered our first choice due to the standard of service and products. I'm not sure if there's been a change of management, but the visit which preceded this review did not fill me with my previous level of confidence. To doubt a reviewers bona fides because their custom predates your CRM, and then post a passive aggressive response only gives weight to my opinion.EDIT 2:I'm sorry that you seem to be taking this so personally. However the review was a result of Google presenting me with a swathe of recently visited places and asking if I would like to review them. Yours was one of many reviews, some of which were positive, some not so much, but all, I feel, were honest and fair in my opinion. As for previous positive reviews, my actions were stronger than stars on a website. Coming up from the coast when I needed something special, Jim Hughes and Sons were often the first, and sometimes only, place I'd go, due to the exemplary service, good attention to detail, and out of the ordinary offerings rarely found in other jewellers. Whenever anyone asked for a recommendation, Jim Hughes and Sons was my first suggestion. I appreciate that things have changed in retail over the past few years, and the climate has become progressively harder, but please don't consider my review as an attack, merely an observation based on my opinion and past experience. As for constructive feedback, I have nothing to offer as it's not my area of expertise, however I can only share my experience as consumer and that is that the 'special something' which used to differentiate Jim Hughes and Sons from the rest of the market has diminished, and if that's the result of market forces, then that is a real shame. I will still frequent your store when needed, and I hope to have my opinion changed. If that happens, rest assured I will post an appropriate review. All the best.
